Akashic has carved out a niche, over the years, of publishing beautiful photo books dedicated to the influential DC punk rock scene–Keep Your Eyes Open: The Fugazi Photos of Glen E. Friedman, Frame of Mind, Hard Art, DC 1979, etc. Akashic has strong connections to the fans of the era in music history. Though they officially disbanded 30 years ago in 1989, they continue to periodically tour in North America and Europe. Soulside features Akashic Books publisher Johnny Temple, along with Akashic author Bobby Sullivan, and Temple's bandmates in Girls Against Boys, Scott McCloud and Alexis Fleisig.
