      William Wobbly

       and the Mysterious Holey Jumper

      Sarah Naish and Rosie Jefferies

      Illustrated by Megan Evans

      Introduction

      Meet William Wobbly

William Wobbly lives with his mum, dad and sisters, Sophie Spikey, Rosie Rudey, Charley Chatty and Katie Careful. The children did not have an easy start in life and now live with their new mum and dad. All the stories are true stories. The children are real children who had difficult times, and were left feeling as if they could not trust grown-ups to sort anything out, or look after them properly. Sometimes the children were sad, sometimes very angry. Often they did things which upset other people but they did not understand why.

In this story William Wobbly is scared and worried. The wobbly feelings are back and William is working hard to make them go away. First he tries distracting himself but his sister Sophie Spikey ruins that! Then mysterious holes start appearing in his jumper. When he gets to school he is terrified to find his teacher has DISAPPEARED! Luckily, William’s mum is on hand to help him find out what has happened to his teacher and where the mysterious holes in his jumper came from.

Written by William’s mum, and his sister (who had a lot of wobbly feelings), this story will help everyone feel a bit better.

William Wobbly had that wobbly feeling again in his tummy. His feet and hands were all tippy tappy, and when he tried to eat his breakfast his bottom just kept on sliding off the chair!

Normally William’s new mum was very good at spotting William’s wobbliness, but today she had her ‘busy face’ on.

Charley Chatty kept on chatting away. Mum’s face got busier and her hands moved in a very busy, fast way.

When it was time to go to school, the wobbly feeling got bigger. William thought it must be very quiet at home when all the children are at school. He wondered if his mum forgot about him when he was at school.

When he thought that, the wobbly feeling seemed to wobble his head as well.

p7

While William waited for his mum to help Charley Chatty to put her shoes on, he sat quietly in the corner, chewing the sleeve of his jumper.

His sister, Sophie Spikey, saw him and said,

“Mum, William is chewing his jumper again!”

       Mum made her

       sighing face while

       she tied up

       Charley’s

       shoelaces.

When they got in the car,

       William was pleased to see

       his elastic band, ‘Robert’, in

his place in the car. William

       wore him every day. William

put Robert on his wrist and

pinged the band lots of times.

      Sophie Spikey was sitting next

       to William. She saw William

       playing with Robert and pinged

him so hard that he snapped

in two! William made a loud

       screeching

       noise. Sophie

       Spikey

       smiled.

      Mum had seen

       what Sophie

       did and said,

       “It’s a shame

       that you chose

       to be unkind

to your brother. Now you will need to make it up to him.”

Mum got a new elastic band out of her ‘emergency box’ in the front of the car and gave it to William.

      William thought the new band

did not look like Robert. He

looked sadly at all the broken

       Robert bits. William started

       chewing his jumper again.

       The hole was getting bigger

       and damper.

p10

By the time they got to school William had started chewing round the neck bit of his jumper as well.

Mum didn’t notice when she kissed them all goodbye. She was too busy stopping Sophie Spikey and Charley Chatty from arguing.

Sometimes, William thought Mum looked a bit like a spider with

       all her arms

       and legs doing

       busy things

       everywhere.
