      Speed limits in Japan are in kmph and lower than in the UK. The limits are: 40 kmph in urban areas and 30 kmph in side streets; 100 or 120 kmph on motorways (with minimum speeds of 40 or 50 kmph); and 50 or 60 kmph elsewhere. There is zero tolerance of drinking and driving.
