Front Cover: For 1970, the Hemi Road Runner remained the most powerful engine in the lineup. Equipped with two 4-barrel carburetors, the 426 was modestly rated at 425 hp. This rare hardtop carries the 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, Air Grabber hood, and A32 Super Performance Axle package with 4.10 gears, and Rallye wheels with Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 tires. Frontispiece: The Air Grabber drew in mass quantities of cool outside air for enhanced performance. Keeping the Air Grabber open not only helped the 426 on the strip, it was also an intimidating factor while the vehicle was staging next to its opponent. (Photo Courtesy David Newhardt)
Title Page: The 1970 Road Runner featured aggressive updated exterior styling and the best high-performance drivetrain packages that Plymouth offered, all built with Chrysler’s rugged and reliable Unibody construction. For 1970, the Road Runner was offered in three body styles: hardtop, coupe, and convertible (shown). (Photo Courtesy David Newhardt)
Contents Page: Only 34 Road Runner convertibles were factory equipped with the 440 Six Barrel engine option in 1970, and this is 1 of 20 built with a 4-speed manual transmission. The A12 option package that joined the Road Runner’s option list in the spring of 1969 added a third engine choice, the 440 Six Barrel, whose three Holley 2-barrel carburetors atop an aluminum intake manifold by Edelbrock created 390 hp.
