This book will give you the basics that I learned from the comics, comic writers, and world champion speakers who have taught me so much about public speaking, presentation skills, and comedy. You don’t have to be born funny or be the class clown to use these techniques and templates to be funny. All you have to do is start. With a minimum of effort, you can be funny and write your own original jokes. With Comedy Made Easy you will be on your way to more money, honey and health. If I can do it, you can do it too.
You Can Be Funny
Knowing that you can be funny is the reason I wrote this book. Even if you truly believe you can’t be funny, by the time you finish reading this book you will be able to write and deliver funny original jokes. I’m here to tell you, YOU CAN BE FUNNY. It just takes a little knowledge, understanding, guts, and the extra secret of a template.
The last pages of this book contain 123 templates or forms for joke writing. I believe our unconscious minds simply need a guide or form in which to flow. When you use one of the templates, the structure gives your creativity a focus on which to create funny, original jokes.
Comedy Made Simple is a mold, a guide, a pattern, and pre-developed plan for anyone to design and deliver jokes, not just any joke, an original funny joke. No more copying from the Internet and trying to tell a worn-out, haggard joke where someone shouts out the punchline before you do. This can be devastating and a setback that can make one want to quit altogether. Quitting does not need to happen.
What’s Funny
Creativity is one of the beauties of humor. Humor is infinite. It is creative, and creativity never ends, especially when you have the 123 templates to use. Anything you can think of has the potential to be funny. Anything! We can all laugh at or with just about anything. Remember why we laugh. Remember anything has the potential to be funny.
Humor works best when the audience can relate. Getting an audience, your friends and family, to relate is where your life is an asset. We all have or had a mother or someone who acted in that role. We all go to the bathroom, eat, and sleep, and most have had or would like a mate or would like to get rid of one, or maybe two.
The single biggest secret to what’s funny is…surprise and the unexpected. It is where the audience is taken off-guard. A great or even good comic leads the audience down a path then all of a sudden and unexpectedly, there is a sharp turn to the left. Suddenly, seemingly out of the blue, we have laughter. We have joy. We have success. The world is a better place with humor.
Funny Will Bring You More Money, Honey, and Health
Being funny can help you have more money, honey, and health. Humor will indeed help you have more friends. It is well known that people want to be around funny people. When you have a choice, who wouldn’t decide to be around the funny person?
Laughter has been studied and found to be healing. Proverbs 17:22 says that “A happy heart is good medicine.” People have had remarkable results overcoming cancer simply by laughing. There is a woman in the movie, The Secret who simply watched funny movies over and over and had a miraculous recovery from “incurable” cancer.
Humor has many benefits. A good sense of humor can be the difference between a professional speaker who makes $500 a speech or $5,000 a speech. Humor helps people learn more easily. A speech or talk is more entertaining when humor is included. Studies show that the top executives in corporations in general have a better sense of humor than most everyone else. Simply put, when you are funny it can help you to have more money, honey, and health in your life.
Very Important Note: This book is written for a stand up performance. Life is a performance. This information is for all interpersonal interaction, writing, speeches, presentations, interacting with friends, bosses, employees, clients, business interactions, lovers and spouses. Humor will make all areas of your life better, and everyone you touch, one smile at a time. With humor there is joy, and the world can always use more joy. |
I. Why Be Funny
“Humor is mankind's greatest blessing.”
~ Mark Twain
Imagine you are stranded on a desert island with two people. Both people are smart, industrious, motivated, are the same gender, and have identical appearance, but one is funny and the other isn’t. Which person do you want to be with on the desert island? Most everyone would agree they would choose to be with
the funny person.
Funny People Have More Friends
There are three major ways to be more popular: be rich, be beautiful, or be funny. We like people who are funny. Funny makes us popular. Funny helps us in meeting new friends. Funny can even help us find a special friend, a really special friend. Funny gets us noticed.
Funny People Are Sexier
People who are funny are sexier. Who wouldn’t want to share their DNA with someone funny? There is no accident that almost every personal ad reads, “Wanted: someone with a good sense of humor.” I won’t go into details, but it is known that funny people have more sex. If I were you, I would finish reading this book!
Funny People Make Mo’ Money
A sense of humor can be the difference between getting the job/promotion or not. As comedy writer Jon Macks pointed out in his book How to be Funny, “It’s a proven fact that people who can make others laugh make more money. It’s part of the reason the president only makes $400,000 a year, while Carrot Top pulls down $17 million.”
Funny People Are Smarter
There is a reason funny people are smart. Funny people need to be quick-witted, understand human nature, and think things out. To have a sense of humor one needs to have a grasp on the world, how we as human beings behave, and why we do what we do. Humor takes skill and intelligence. Funny people have the ability to connect seemingly unconnected events. A funny person has the ability to see the irony where most see a problem.
Humor promotes learning and makes what is said more memorable. Studies have shown that students who attend lectures that include humor achieve higher test scores than students who attend the same lectures without humor. When learning is fun we benefit.
