"Mr. Jeffrey," Henry blurted out. "There’s something important I’d like to discuss with you later. Something private."
"Well what is it," said Dan as he furrowed his brow. "We’re alone now, out with it."
"The thing is…" he began to say, but stopped because Trisha and her mother had reentered to room while discussing old family memories. "We’ll talk later," Henry said dejectedly.
That night the four of them ate and laughed heartily. Henry was quite capable of enjoying the company of Trisha’s parents as long as the subject focused on their respective businesses, stories from the past, and family news - and stayed away from topics such as politics, race, and religion. After evading hot button issues during dinner they watched a movie and played around with the dogs before retiring for the night. Trisha accompanied Henry to his guest room, where the two would spend a few minutes cuddling and sweet-talking each other, while the door remained open.
Mrs. Jeffrey passed by the guest room with the dogs in order to get to her bed. This was Trisha’s cue to return to her own room—at least momentarily. The two kissed each other goodnight and temporarily parted ways.
