If you notice your room doesn’t match the dimensions shown, refer back to Chapter 2, Dimensioning in Revit, to adjust the wall length. Simply click on the wall and adjust the temporary dimension length, and the wall will move to your desired position.
Now we can move on to making your project inviting. Let’s take a look at Chapter 4, Placing Doors and Windows.
PLACING DOORS
To begin placing a door in your drawing, go to the Architecture Tab, and select the DOOR tile to activate a list of doors in Revit.
This command will open up a quick door selection of what is already available, so you can choose which door you want to use in your design. You can then drag the door of your choice to your design, and place it in the specified location in the wall.
When placing a door, notice that the temporary dimensions appear just like we discussed in Chapter 2, Dimensioning in Revit. So, if you need to place a door in a specific location, you can click on the dimension and type in the specific distance, and the door will move to your new desired location. For example, if you want the door to be placed 6 inches from the edge of a wall (like in your home), then you can specify that distance.
Here is another example of placing a front door following the same steps as before. Click on the door drop-down category and drag the door into position.
Once you have selected the door and placed it in your house or building, click the MODIFY Arrow to end the command. Please don’t click the ESC Key.
Click on the INSERT tab, and click on LOAD FAMILY.
You will get a dialog box with LOAD FAMILY template folders that are stored in Revit.
Next, click on DOORS and open that folder.
Click inside the DOORS folder.
Here you can select from many more doors for your design. You will even get a picture in the top right, so you can see exactly what you are selecting.
Once you have selected the door you want for your design, click OPEN, and the door will be loaded into your project in the Project Browser.
Once the door has been loaded into the Project Browser, follow the steps of expanding the tree, selecting the door size you desire for your house or building, and dragging the door into your design.
