have an iced tea with a slice of lemon please,” I told Carla before Sarah or Dais could give their orders.

“We’ll have the same, Carla.” Daisy ordered without stalling and Sarah agreed.

“Okay, I got it! That’ll be three iced teas with lemon slices coming right up, girls.” Carla smiled and then waited for us to order our lunch.

“Oh, we still haven’t decided on what we want to eat for lunch yet,” I said, and Carla nodded pleasantly and moved on to the table in front of us. A sweet older couple waited patiently, and then gave Carla their orders the moment she walked up to their table.

About three minutes later, Carla had returned to our table and we were ready to order.

“All right girls, what will you have today?” Carla seemed a bit rushed when she took our order this time. The sound of growing impatience was in her voice. Since it was noon, this meant rush hour for the staff.

It seemed we still could not decide what we wanted, so we ended up ordering the easiest and best meal on the menu; we ordered the Manor house salad. Carla took our orders down quickly and rushed off without uttering a word.

While we waited for our food to arrive, a storm came up. I remember Aunt Ruth saying that whenever there was a storm outside, it was the devil whipping his wife Ana Anansi for being unfaithful to him when she slept with Paul Yellows and had his children. About fifteen minutes into our wait, Dais mentioned a situation dealing with vampires. It was raining hard outside with flashy lightning, and I hated rain! It always made outdoors all mushy and dreary and hazy and wet.

“There’s been another vampire invasion in Kentucky. Gosh, they’re all over the place,” Daisy said as she looked around for Carla, or at least one of the waiters or waitresses with our house salad.

“Correction, Dais,” Sarah spoke up, raising a finger. “Vampires are not ever where because there aren’t any vampires in Baron’s Hollowpoint.”

“Umm, hello, Argent spider’s are just as bad as the vampires, and everyone in Baron’s Hollowpoint needs to –” I was cut off by a waiter bringing our food.

He was drop dead handsome, and when he placed our orders before us, he spoke, and his voice sounded so sexy.

“How are you pretty ladies doing today? Enjoy your house salad, and thanks for dining at Carla’s Manor. Please return soon.” A sexy bang fell down just below his right brow and in between his forehead when he leaned in to put our orders in front of us.

I read his name tag. His name was Eric Paris and he smelled of Polo cologne. He smelled so darn good, and I wanted to drink in the perfect scent of his cologne. Afterwards, Eric moved away, leaving his wonderful scent behind.

“Umm,” I started up with a mouthful of house salad. It was drizzled in salt and vinegar and it tasted good. ”I was saying before I was interrupted by that sexy waiter Eric Paris bringing our orders that everyone in Baron’s Hollowpoint needs to get together and destroy the Argent spider’s.” I wiped a small spill of salad from off my blouse and forked another helping of Carla’s great tasting house salad.

I waited for Sarah and Daisy to respond, but they were slow about speaking up because they feared the Argent spider’s. Hell, everyone in Baron’s Hollowpoint did, and so the talk about vampires emerged again. I noticed that the storm outside had calmed and the rain had slacked off some.

“There’s been news reports that the vampire is spreading around the world fast and that they want worldwide domination. It’s scary, huh? Vampires and spiders ruling the world – those creeps.” Sarah muttered the last words underneath her breath.

It’s wise she had, because right over in the far left corner was seated a small group of Argent spider’s. They were slurping wine and snacking on appetizers of grilled vegetables and eyeing everyone inside Carla’s Manor, including Carla Misotto. DANG BLAMMIT, why does the supernatural have to exist? How dare these creatures come into our world so unwelcomed and control us this way? Why won’t God deliver us from such evil beings? Are we being punished for our sins through them?

“It’s sickening to be a vampire. The only thing they eat or want the most is blood,” Dais said. She opened her mouth and pointed her index finger at it as if she were about to make herself sick, and we laughed out loud. But then we thought about the Argent spider’s watching and quieted down.

      Chapter Eight

We’re hardly ever, if at all, bothered by vampires. Plus, this is deep down in the country. I mean, if there were vampires somewhere inside of Baron’s Hollowpoint, they would have great hospitality and Southern charm. The vampire is strong, fast, blood thirsty, and even more wicked than the spider-like human. The vampire is just as elegant and wealthy as the Argent spider’s, but vampires are Romanian.

There is one exception to the Argent spider that makes them more powerful than vampires, and it’s that they are poisonous. Therefore, the vampire can’t feed off of spiders, and that is a great advantage the Argent spider has over the vampire. And oh, spider-like humans have index spider fang teeth similar to that of a vampire. Spiders don’t feed off of human blood.

“Okay, we can get off the discussion of the vampire and get back to what really matters as of right now – the Argent spider” I pointed out, raising my voice over Dais and Sarah.

Spider is the beast within the Argent spider, and everyone in Baron’s Hollowpoint is in danger of the spider-like humans. They will go on existing on earth and in Baron’s Hollowpoint, controlling everyone here until they are destroyed, and I know how to get rid of the Argent spider once and for all.

“You’re right, Andrea,” Sarah agreed. “We – everyone here in Baron’s Hollowpoint – are indeed in danger, and we need to come together to destroy Argent spider’s.”

“I agree a hundred percent, girls,” Daisy responded, briefly glancing in the direction where the Argent spider’s were sitting. “How do you plan to get rid of them?”

“I remember watching as Father Westley, and Abraham Howell took on the woman spider Ana Anansi on the fairgrounds ten years ago, but unfortunately, Abraham Howell was murdered by Ana Anansi; she broke his neck. Oh, I almost forgot about the Indian Small Eagle; I think he is Hopi Indian. Small Eagle was knocked unconscious and he returned to the reservation later, and has cut off all communication with anyone in Baron’s Hollowpoint since then. It’s so sad, and the worst part about it is the Argent spider murdered my parents and Father Westley.”

Suddenly, things became very serious, and Sarah and Daisy leaned closer while I told them how to kill the Argent spider.

“God was watching over Father Westley that night. He discovered an axe hidden in the hedge bushes, and Father Westley had Abraham Howell grab the axe and toss it over to him. Father Westley axed the head of Ana Anansi, and hastily set the rest of her on fire.” I suddenly began to worry just thinking about it, but I continued, “Ana Anansi died a terrible death! The hideous part of Ana Anansi’s body, the black widow spider legs, kicked wildly in the fire, and her head was on the other side of her. Her face was twisted in agony and pain. Her mouth screamed until she became still with death.”

We were served with our bill, and I insisted I pay for our meal this time. We each took turns paying for each other’s food when we went out to
