“Diane,” Tim said. “You’re blowing this all out of proportion.”
Diane walked over to Tim and slapped him in the face. “You can go to hell.”
“Do I have to call security?” Herman said.
“This is all your fault,” Diane screamed at Herman.
“As far as I’m concerned, the only thing going on anyone’s permanent record is you slapping Tim in front of us. Everything regarding the comments he made about you will be erased.”
“You can’t do that.”
“Watch me.”
“You’re not going to get away with this,” she shouted at Herman. “You’re not going to get away with this.”
“Get your ass out of here right now before I call security,” he screamed, pointing at the door.
“Fine.” She ran to the door, opened it, then slammed it on the way out.
Chapter 8
Tim Harrelson
Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 4:30pm
“I can’t believe she did that,” Tim said, holding his cheek.
“Well, it’s over with,” Herman said.
“Yes,” Bruce said. “Let her go to her lawyer if she wants to. Since nothing happened, there’s nothing she can do.”
“I’m sorry about my comments to her Mr. Thompson.”
“I know. You apologized. There was no reason for her to slap you. No reason to get so angry with you over those comments,” he said, shaking his head.
“Everything will be okay,” Herman said.
“I’m sure it will,” Bruce said. “I’m going home. There’s been enough excitement for one day.”
“Have a good night,” Tim said.
“You too.” He turned, opened the door, and left the room.
“Close the door,” Herman said.
Tim stood up nervously, went over to the door, shut it.
“Are you satisfied?” Herman asked.
“Yes.”
“We’ve talked about this before,” Herman said, his voice rising.
“I know.”
“So why did you have to do it again?”
Tim looked down at his shoes, clenching his teeth together.
“Have I made a mistake in hiring you?” he asked.
“No.”
“I’m really getting tired of all this,” he said, picking up the magazine.
“It won’t happen again.”
“It better not,” he said. “Here, since you claimed that this was yours. You take it out of here.”
“Okay.”
Herman pressed his lips together, drew his upper lip between his teeth. “I’m not kidding this time. This better not happen again.”
“Fine.”
“Do I need to have you sign a non-compete?”
“You said I didn’t have to.”
“Keep it up and you’ll have a decision to make. And since I know a lot about you, I expect that something like this had better not happen again. If it does, then I’ll reconsider having you sign the non-compete if you still want to work in the industry again.”
Tim shook his head, breathing rapidly.
“I like you Tim. Don’t disappoint me anymore. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
“You can go far here if you want to. It’s up to you.”
“Okay.”
“You can go now.”
Tim walked out of the room, saw Terri and Austin staring at his magazine in their booth. “What,” he said, glaring at Terri. Do you want to look at it? Aren’t you into this?”
“Go to hell,’ she said.
“What about you Austin. Do you want to see this?” he said, holding up the magazine. “Nah, I don’t think you would be interested in it.”
“Drop dead,” he said.
Tim smiled, opened the door, then walked to his car.
