life. Accepting Jesus makes you want to change your behavior from bad to as pure as you can be in your mind, soul and spirit. You want to transform your life to please the Lord and do not want to do sin as we learn in Colossians 3:10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. Those that never do this stay in generational curses, which never help them change their life style, but keep them so non-functional in ways that they are not happy and consequently the people around them are also very discontented. When they marry, their spouse and children suffer the consequences of their behavior. I know as I feel as though I was raised in that type of environment. As I look back on my own marriages, I chose men who were like my father which only caused me to be timid in ways of expressing myself and feisty to keep my independence.
I know now a lot of my behavior before I turned my life over to the Lord came from generational curses. Our upbringing plays a huge role in our lives in how we deal with different situations. The day when I turned my life over to the Lord was the first day of a totally new way to live. It is written in 2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. It is up to each one of us when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of our life to want to change our ways; so they line up with the word of God. That is when we see those generational curses leave us and the Christ in us comes alive as the above scripture teaches us.
While writing my story I am learning a tremendous amount of knowledge when it comes to marrying the right person. It is so important to find someone whose genes are healthy, not just physically but also mentally.
Please think about the above paragraph very seriously as it can save you a lifetime of heartaches and bring a life filled with spiritual love, hope and peace. By choosing an *evenly yoked Christian person for a mate, your marriage is built on solid ground which raises the percentage that your relationship will last a lifetime. God wants us to be joyful and trust in Him.
*evenly yoked means believing and behaving as described in the bible how God wants us to live.
Chapter 13
PRE-TEEN YEARS
During the years of growing up we sure knew how to develop an imagination or it could have been a warning to be careful from God. Sundays really stand out in my mind as my sisters and I had to walk four long blocks to get to church. Along the way was this very huge hill we had to walk up; it was a short cut. This hill had to be the steepest street in the entire city with houses at the top and at the bottom with overgrown bushes and high grass in between. I always felt that someone was going to jump out and grab us. Being a fairly young girl, it was extremely scary to me and I tried to get to the top as fast as I could.
At the same church were the meetings I attended when I was a Brownie and later graduated up to the level to become a Girl Scout.
Around the age of six and sitting in the living room, my Uncle Al came to our apartment. He had a woman with him and introduced her to me and said, “Gloria I want you to meet your new Aunt Elsie. She is going to love you as much as I do.” When I looked over at her, I heard a voice inside me say, “No she is not going to love you like he does.” I believe it was the first time I heard clearly the Holy Spirit’s voice; Proverbs 1:23 Behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. I realize now exactly the truth in His word and what He meant.
It was around my tenth year of age when my family moved from the apartment into the house which was on the outskirts of the city; to live with my Grandfather. Isaiah 54:13 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
Chapter 14
TEEN AGE YEARS
Meeting new people came easy to me. I was outgoing and happy and thought the world was mine. I made friends with this one girl Carol whom I met the first day of my freshman year of high school. We seemed to hit it off right away. We remained friends throughout high school and up to the time when I was divorcing my husband.
When I became old enough, in my middle teens, I sang in the choir. Not that I had a great singing voice as even when I hummed it was off key but I am the kind of person who gives my best shot to whatever I am doing at the time. My church was gracious enough to allow me that honor of serving and praising God in the choir. When Sunday school teachers were needed, I knew that that would be a better place for me to use my talent. I always loved children. I did many baby sitting jobs and helping the church with the youth was a much better fit for me than singing.
One of my heart’s desires was being a cheerleader. In my sophomore year I tried out and was told by my bookkeeping teacher, who was one of the judges to pick the next group to replace the outgoing cheerleaders that I was not going to be chosen as she wanted this other girl to be one. I do not give up or in that easy. God knew that this was very important to me. When it came time the following year, I tried out again. This time the outgoing cheerleaders did the choosing. Praise God, I became a cheerleader and cheered for both the Junior and the Senior Varsity teams. Were my prayers answered? Oh yes, I serve a faithful God. It is written in Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. As the song goes “Amazing Grace.”
