ONLY WHAT WE CAN PROVE
A Native sent word to officers that he wanted to speak to someone. Two officers reported to his cell and found that his face was swollen and one of his eyes was swollen shut. He was taken care of by Health Services personnel and taken to segregation for his safety while an investigation was conducted.
The next day, we received a kite implicating three Natives in the assault. One of them had numerous scrapes on his hands, arms and back. He was placed in seg, however without any evidence and nobody talking, the other two got off without being charged.
PROTECTION PLAN NEEDED
An officer observed an inmate running down the center stairwell. As the inmate got closer to him, the officer noticed that the inmates’ eye was red and puffy.
When the officer asked him what happened, the inmate told him that he had problems with the Natives and that they jumped him.
This guy must have been in major trouble in order to give up a Native.
We can generally protect someone if they have the courage to tell us what is going on. We locked up his two attackers. A plan would have to be devised in order to protect this guy from any and all Natives in the prison.
ASSAULTS PLANNED
In June of 2007, word had gotten out about Natives planning assaults in B-West. Two regular officers and one lieutenant were on their hit list. Three Natives were identified and locked up. An investigation was conducted to try to identify others that may have been co-conspirators.
