The children would cry for a while. Finally they would say how sorry they were and how they would never do that again. Their parents would tell them how much they loved them and, after some more hugs and kisses, everyone would go off about their business. My spankings never ended that way. They grew in length and intensity until my mother would finally call off my father by saying something like "Okay, I guess she's had enough now." Then both of them would leave the room. I probably cried and said I would never do it again, but I don't remember. I do remember that they never finished a spanking by telling me that they loved me. It was many years later and I was well into my adulthood before my mother was able to say those words to me. My father never said them at all.
