13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers [were] as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking [YHWH]; and when they lifted up [their] voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised [YHWH], [saying], For [he is] good; for his mercy [endures] forever: that [then] the house was filled with a cloud, [even] the house of [YHWH]; 14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of [YHWH] had filled the house of God. [2 Chronicles 7:1-2 KJV] 1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of [YHWH] filled the house. 2 And the priests could not enter into the house of [YHWH], because the glory of [YHWH] had filled [YHWH’s] house.
In this setting what you find is a kind of dwelling of YHWH’s “glory” in the house they had built him. However, the Lord’s presence cleared the place out. This is not so much cohabitation, but YHWH’s Glory dwelling in the midst where no man can come immediately near, aka the Holy of Holies. This is signified in the Ark of the Covenant in that which contains the heart of Yahh’s law, the bread of life, and that almond which blossoms and buds forth from the life-giving branch. This is the firstfruit of the second harvest that is the one stick of a nation restored to budding life from the branch that was once dead (Ezekiel 37:15-24, focus verse 22). These are all literal symbols of what is The Way! There is a distinct difference when comparing this situation of “the house” to the original setting of the garden, as well as what is reported in Revelation 21 when there is no temple in the place God chooses to dwell with Mankind. And certainly YHWH’s commands concerning the tabernacle cannot be found as the fulfillment in this New Version of the house of YHWH. However, we do see Yahh’s glory in the picture of the Holy of Holies. No matter the condition of Man and men, YHWH is holy.
Stephen makes this all too clear in the speech that got him killed:
[Acts 7:43-54 KJV-F Version] 43 [Yeah, [you] took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which [you] made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon. 44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen. 45 Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus [reference to Joshua] into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God [drove] out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; 46 Who found [favor] before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. 47 But Solomon built him a house. 48 Howbeit the most High [dwells] not in temples made with hands; as [says] the prophet, 49 Heaven [is] my throne, and earth [is] my footstool: what house will [you] build me? [says YHWH]: or what [is] the place of my rest? 50 [Has] not my hand made all these things? 51 [You] stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, [you] do always resist the Holy [Spirit]: as your fathers [did], so [do] [you]. 52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which [showed] before of the coming of the Just One; of whom [you] have been now the betrayers and murderers: 53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept [it]. 54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with [their] teeth.
Therefore, we can easily determine that YHWH chose to fill the house with his glory despite much glaring disobedience; ‘tis the saga of scripture, even when the true LORD GOD YHWH ELOHIM peels us back to just a remnant. The problem from here, besides God’s people capturing (or not capturing) the vision of what really happened, is determining why David chose to disobey YHWH, and why YHWH chose to honor Solomon in David’s disobedience? Fortunately, the Lord is beautiful and faithful to reveal this too in longsuffering.
