Dr. Rik Das is an Assistant Professor in the Post Graduate Programme in Information Technology, at the Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi. He has a PhD (Tech) in Information Technology from the University of Calcutta. He has also received his MTech (Information Technology) from the University of Calcutta after earning his BE (Information Technology) from the University of Burdwan. Dr. Das has over 16 years of experience in academia and research with several leading universities and institutes in India including the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) (Deemed‐to‐be‐University), Globsyn Business School, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, and so on. He had an early career stint in business development and project marketing with industries like Great Eastern Impex Pvt. Ltd. and Zenith Computers Ltd. Dr. Rik Das was appointed as a “Distinguished Speaker” by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) in July 2020. He was featured on the uLektz Wall of Fame as one of the “Top 50 Tech Savvy Academicians in Higher Education across India” for the year 2019. He is also a member of the International Advisory Committee of AI‐Forum, UK. Dr. Das was awarded a professional membership to the ACM for the year 2020‐21. In 2020, he was also the recipient of prestigious “InSc Research Excellence Award”. Dr. Das was conferred with the “Best Researcher Award” at the International Scientist Awards on Engineering, Science and Medicine for the year 2021. He is also the recipient of the 2021 “Best Innovation Award” in the Computer Science category of the UILA Awards. Dr. Das has conducted collaborative research with professionals from industries including Philips‐Canada, Cognizant Technology Solutions, and TCS. His keen interest toward the application of machine learning and deep learning techniques for designing computer‐aided diagnosis systems has resulted in joint research publications with professors and researchers from several universities abroad including the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Canada; Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VSB Technical University of Ostrava, Ostrava, Czechia; and Cairo University, Giza, Egypt.
Dr. Das has filed and published two Indian patents, consecutively during 2018 and 2019 and has over 40 international publications to‐date with reputed publishers including IEEE, Springer, Emerald, and Inderscience. He has also authored three books in the domain of content‐based image classification and has edited three volumes to‐date with IGI Global, CRC Press, and De Gruyter, Germany. Dr. Das has chaired several sessions in international conferences on artificial intelligence and machine learning as a domain expert. He has also served as an invited speaker at several national and international technical events, conclaves, meetups, and refresher courses on data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, image processing, and e‐learning, which have been organized and hosted by prominent bodies like the University Grants Commission (Human Resource Development Centre), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), software consulting organizations, the MHRD Initiative under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching, IEEE student chapters, and the computer science/information technology departments of leading universities. Dr. Rik Das's hobby is a YouTube channel called ‘Curious Neuron’, where he discusses the latest knowledge and information to larger communities in the domain of machine learning, research and development, as well as open‐source programming languages. Dr. Das is always open to discuss new research and project ideas for collaborative work or techno‐managerial consultancies.
Dr. Siddhartha Bhattacharyya earned his bachelors in physics, bachelors in optics and optoelectronics, and masters in optics and optoelectronics from the University of Calcutta, India in 1995, 1998, and 2000, respectively. He completed a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering at Jadavpur University, India in 2008. He is the recipient of the University Gold Medal from the University of Calcutta for his masters. Dr. Bhattacharyya is also the recipient of several coveted awards including the “Distinguished HoD” and “Distinguished Professor” awards conferred by the Computer Society of India, Mumbai Chapter, India in 2017; the “Honorary Doctorate Award” (DLitt) from The University of South America; and the South East Asian Regional Computing Confederation (SEARCC) “International Digital Award ICT Educator of the Year” in 2017. He was appointed an ACM “Distinguished Speaker” for the 2018 to 2020 term and been inducted into the “People of ACM Hall of Fame” in 2020. Dr. Bhattacharyya has been appointed an IEEE Computer Society “Distinguished Visitor” for the 2021 to 2023 term and elected a full foreign member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. Dr. Bhattacharyya is the Principal of Rajnagar Mahavidyalaya, Rajnagar, Birbhum. He served as a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Christ University, Bangalore after he served as the Principal of the RCC Institute of Information Technology, Kolkata, India from 2017 to 2019. He has also served as a Senior Research Scientist in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the VSB Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic (2018 to 2019). Prior to this, he was the Professor of Information Technology at the RCC Institute of Information Technology, Kolkata, India. He served as the head of the department from March 2014 to December 2016. Prior to this, he was an Associate Professor of Information Technology at the RCC Institute of Information Technology, Kolkata, India from 2011 to 2014. From 2005 to 2011, Dr. Bhattacharyya was an Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Information Technology at the University Institute of Technology, The University of Burdwan, India. He was a Lecturer in Information Technology at the Kalyani Government Engineering College, India from 2001 to 2005. Dr. Bhattacharyya is a co‐author of six books, the co‐editor of 75 books, and has more than 300 research publications in international journals and conference proceedings as well as two PCTs (Patent Cooperation Treaty). He has been a member of organizing and technical program committees for several national and international conferences. He was the Founding Chair of ICCICN 2014, ICRCICN (2015 to 2018), and ISSIP (2017, 2018) (Kolkata, India). He was also the General Chair of several international conferences including WCNSSP 2016 (Chiang Mai, Thailand), ICACCP (2017, 2019; Sikkim, India), and ICICC (2018; New Delhi, India and 2019; Ostrava, Czech Republic).
Dr. Bhattacharyya is the Associate Editor of several reputed journals including Applied Soft Computing, IEEE Access, Evolutionary Intelligence, and IET Quantum Communications. He is the editor of the International Journal of Pattern Recognition Research and the Founding Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Hybrid Intelligence, Inderscience. He has guest‐edited several issues with several international journals and is serving as the Series Editor of the IGI Global Book Series “Advances in Information Quality and Management (AIQM)”, De Gruyter Book Series “Frontiers in Computational Intelligence (FCI)”, CRC Press Book Series(s) “Computational Intelligence” and “Applications & Quantum Machine Intelligence”, Wiley Book Series “Intelligent Signal and Data Processing”, Elsevier Book Series “Hybrid Computational Intelligence for Pattern Analysis and Understanding”, and Springer “Tracts on Human Centered Computing”.
His research interests include hybrid intelligence, pattern recognition, multimedia data processing, social networks, and quantum computing.
Dr. Bhattacharyya is a life fellow of the Optical Society of India (OSI), India; life fellow of the International Society of Research and Development (ISRD), UK; a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK; a fellow of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), India; and a fellow of the Institution of Engineers (IEI), India. He is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA; International Institute of Engineering and Technology (IETI), Hong Kong; and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), USA. He is a life member of the Cryptology Research Society of India (CRSI), Computer Society of India (CSI), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Indian Unit for Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence (IUPRAI), Center for Education Growth and Research (CEGR), Integrated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), and Association of Leaders and Industries (ALI).
