Spain has an excellent motorway system, but be aware that some “autopistas” (motorways) are toll-paying. Where possible, avoid motorway travel during “el éxodo vacacional” (the holiday exodus) – periods of dense road traffic that occur at the beginning of Spanish holiday times.
