DINO EXPERIMENT 624
QUESTION: x Why do baby Brachiosaurus eat so much?
BACKGROUND RESEARCH NOTES:
The Brachiosaurus is MASSIVE! It’s a member of the sauropod family which are really big herbivores.
MY PLAN:
Observe and brainstorm. Dad is home today and said he would help.
FIELD NOTES:
9.I spotted a baby Brachiosaurus outside but ALL HE DOES is eat, eat, and EAT!
»Dad hypothesizes it’s because the Brachiosaurus needs to become huge! I wonder why it has to be such a big dino?
10.I found a teen Brachy! He’s WAY bigger than the baby, but
STILL eating!
»Dad’s new hypothesis is that the teen still needs to eat so he can reach his full size to DEFEND himself.
»Update = A Troodon is here and went after the baby and teen Brachy! The teen defended them by stomping his feet. Bye Troodon!
11.Uh oh! Now a big T. rex is here! She’s going after the baby and teen Brachiosaurus! The teen is trying to scare her away, but he’s not big enough!
»Update = A HUGE mama Brachiosaurus came just in time to protect the baby and teen! She stood up on her big two back legs and then STOMPED the ground to scare off the T. rex. It was so loud and so amazing!
FINDING:
The baby Brachiosaurus eats all the time so he can grow to his full size as fast as possible to scare off predators!
DINO EXPERIMENT 618
QUESTION: How does the Compsognathus run so fast?
BACKGROUND RESEARCH NOTES:
The Compsognathus uses its small size and speed to outrun predators and steal food!
MY PLAN:
I’m going to skateboard down a ramp to go as fast as a Compsognathus! Protective gear ON!
FIELD NOTES:
12.I tried skateboarding down the ramp but it didn’t make me fast enough and I also fell…
13.The Compsognathus goes low when he’s running fast to avoid other dinosaurs, so I’ll try bending down low on my skateboard!
»Update = Ouch, I fell again!
14.I just noticed that the Compsognathus doesn’t JUST go low, he ALSO pushes off with one of his legs to get a burst of speed. I can’t wait to try that!!
»Update = It worked! I went down the ramp and was just as fast as the Compognathus!
FINDING:
The Compsognathus runs super fast by going low AND pushing off with one leg for a burst of speed!… Also, you fall a LOT when you’re learning how to skateboard!!!
DINO EXPERIMENT 703
QUESTION: Why do Corythosaurus honk?
BACKGROUND RESEARCH NOTES:
Paleontologists believe Corythosaurus could make HUGE honking noises using the big crests at the top of their heads! SO COOL!
MY PLAN:
Observe the Corythosaurus to see WHEN and WHY they HONK!
I accidentally started this experiment during Dexter’s nap. Oops.
