Jesus hears about the situation, His heart immediately reroutes its agenda and moves toward the cry of the concerned parent of a child that is near death. Even though interrupted by the healing of a woman who had issues for 12 years, and receiving word that the child is dead, Jesus still came to the child’s rescue. You need a Savior, somebody that will be interrupted but will still keep coming. You need a sympathetic Savior who will tell the concerned parent, “Do not be afraid, only believe.” You better ask God to save your parents.

You need a Savior that can hear the cry of a parent and still keep coming to your rescue. Momma, don’t buy me stuff, pray for me. Daddy don’t ignore the signs, talk to Jesus about me. You need a sympathetic Savior, a Savior that comes on the scene and smells death but still sees life. A Savior who will not listen to what everyone else is saying about your condition, but will help you. A sympathetic Savior that will dismiss the crowd, take your momma and daddy, the power of Peter and the compassion and wisdom of John and shut the door and deal with you. You need a sympathetic Savior that will ignore the laughs and see the joy that is about to come back into your life.

You need a sympathetic Savior that will call you back to life. And I suggest counseling, but the name of Jesus still works. And I promote after-school programs, but Jesus has power to change. And I promote support groups, but the name of the Lord is a strong tower, and the righteous can run into it and be saved. A life with Jesus can handle bullies. A life with Jesus can handle peer pressure. A life with Jesus can get you through dead situations. A life with Jesus can get you through the “hood” mentality. I promote more programs and initiatives, but the life and teachings of Jesus, when embraced by any person who believes, can lift you up and bring you back! You need somebody that will shout, “Get up! You’re not dead! Get up! I’m not finished with you! Get up! Get up! Get up! Get up!”

And one more thing to revive a child, you must have a concerned parent in the room, a sympathetic Savior that can call you back and a mind to make a comeback.

You need a mind to make a comeback. When Jesus called her, she came! She had a mind to make a comeback. She was only 12-years-old, and she had some type of feeling that this was not the end of her life. She knew that life was not over, so when He called, she came back. She got up at once. When daddy called her, she didn’t come, that wasn’t the right voice. When momma called her, she didn’t come, that wasn’t the right voice. When the mourners cried over her, she didn’t come, that wasn’t the right voice. When the people laughed at Jesus, she didn’t come, that wasn’t the right voice. But when Jesus called her, she got up!

Since she grew up in the church, she must have heard Luke 1:37, “For nothing is impossible with God.” She must have heard Luke 2:49, “Didn’t you know, I must be about my fathers business.” She must have heard Luke 3:22, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” She must have heard Luke 4:4, “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” She must have heard Luke 5:31, “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” She must have heard Luke 6:10, “Stretch out your hand…and the hand was completely restored.” She must have heard Luke 7: 14, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”

The little girl was dead, and according to medical science, death is when signs of life in an organism cease. When a person’s five senses have ceased, the person is considered dead. Here was a little girl, whose eyes were not open, so her sense of sight had ceased. She must be dead. She was not eating, so her sense of taste had ceased. She was not moving, so her sense of touch had ceased, she must be dead. She had no expression on her face from all the stink comments, so her sense of smell was gone. She must be dead. Four of her five senses had ceased, so she must be dead. But they must have overlooked her last remaining sense. Something happened that went past all systems and found a seat in her soul and it was the Word of God.

Not a message of mess. Not a flick of flesh. But she heard the Word from a man whom the book of Revelation describes as one riding a horse. Wearing a robe, dipped in blood, with a sword in hand and whose name is the Word of God! And when she heard Luke 8:54, “Talitha Cumi,” which means, “my child, get up.” She knew that God was talking to her and she had a mind to make a comeback. No matter what the situation, when He who was, and is, and is to come, calls you, you’d better be somewhere listening for your name.

When the resurrection and the life calls you back, you better have the mind to make a comeback. No matter how bad it looks, you can make a comeback. No matter how bad it gets, you can make a comeback. No matter how many times they break your heart, you can make a comeback. No matter how low your grades get, you can make a comeback. No matter how dead it looks, you can make a comeback. No matter how bad it smells, you can make a comeback. No matter how deep it is, you can make a comeback. No matter how bad you’ve been, you can make a comeback. Its revival time for the children!

I want to tell a little story about a young lady who was driving in the midst of a lightning storm. The woman’s car had a sunroof and her little girl sat fastened securely in the back seat. Every time the lightning would flash, the little girl would look up at the lightning and smile. Her mother noticed her daughter do this several times, and when they arrived safely home, the woman asked her daughter, “I have a question for you. I don’t understand how in the world you could smile in the midst of such a severe storm. We were riding through hell, through turmoil, through disappointment, through heartache and through pain! How in the world, could you just smile?”

She looked at her momma and said, “Momma, the reason I was smiling at the lighting was because God was taking my picture. He wanted to see how I looked in the midst of my storms!”

And right now, some of y’all are going through hell. Some of y’all are going through a bad situation, and God wants to know if you can praise Him in a dead situation. Can you dance when it gets real dirty? Can you clap when you can’t see change? God wants to know, can you smile in the midst of a storm?

Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14.) Jesus said, “I say unto you, ‘Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven,’” (Matthew 18:3). It’s a child’s revival! Find your guardian, find the sympathetic Savior, and make up your mind to make a comeback.
