That land was given to Israel by God through a covenant. Now, listen to God as He gave this particular place to Abraham hundreds of years before this battle,
“So the LORD made a covenant with Abram that day and said, ‘I have given this land to your descendants, all the way from the border of Egypt to the great Euphrates River. The land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites, and Jebusites.”
