Today’s reading served as a source of strength to us in the midst of Matthew’s struggle. It reminded us that God never sleeps. We are human, our bodies are frail, and we tire; but this passage assures us that we have a God in whom we can trust. When we fall asleep, God stays awake.
It may be difficult at first, but surrender your resting time to God. You may want to return to this meditation from time to time. Allow God to take some control, even if it is just during the time when you need to rest. As you do, you may find it easier to trust God with more and more. God never sleeps. God is awake when you are not. God is holding your hand and your child’s hand while you take time to recuperate.
Prayer
Almighty God, when I need to take a rest, I feel . . .
Please give me the assurance that you are indeed the God who never sleeps. Help me to come to that place where I can trust you with my child’s well-being while I am restored through rest. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Suggestion
Plan some time to rest today. You can do this by asking a friend or family member to stand in for you while you retreat. You may even want to speak to your physician about getting assistance to help you sleep.
