Jai said, “I’m not. I left it at the club last night.”

Jez said, “Are you sleeping with her or her man?”

Jai said, “Stop it, twin. You don’t like her. Do you really want the truth?”

Jez said, “No! I want you to be safe. I put your mail in your office.”

Jai said, “I’m okay! I made us hair appointments today for one PM.”

      Kimberly said, “Can I go?”

Jai said, “Of course…I’ll be ready in a minute.”

      *****

Jez walked to the back and peeked into Jai’s office, noticing her head was bent over onto her arms. She was knocked out, so Jez closed the door.

DJ said, “Welcome Ms. Jai to the stage.”

She crawled slowly down to the front of the stage with her back arched, twerking her cheeks to the music one at a time like Queen showed her.

When she made it to the pole, she flipped over into a headstand, bouncing her ass in midair, copying Samaya’s move. She flipped over into the splits and noticed Merch and Chuck sitting at the same table, laughing.

Jez said, “Jai? Wake up! Jai? Jai? Wake up, twin!”

She was tapping and shaking Jai until she woke up.

Jai said, “Stop! What time is it, sis?”

Jez said, “Seven PM. I let you sleep. You need to stop smoking that shit. You can’t even handle it.”

Jai said, “Why didn’t you wake me up?”

Jez said, “I checked on you a few times, you were snoring, so I let you sleep. I smoked the rest of your flame. What you know about Backwoods? I’m telling Mommy!”

Jai said, “Tell her, and I’ll tell her you gave it to me. Sorry, I left all the work for you. I’m so sorry, sis. Let me take you out to eat.”

Jez said, “Good, because I have the munchies. And, who in the hell gave you flame? Matter of fact! When did you start smoking?”

Jai said, “Why? And last night. Kimberly left already? Damn!”

Jez said, “I already know Queen turning your ass out. Let me find out you’re auditioning for the amateur night. I’m going to fuck you up.”

Jai said, “First of all, I’m grown. Can’t nobody make me do shit that I don’t want to? Secondly, If I decide to dance, make sure you make it rain.”

      Chapter 7

      Queen

      Damn! Not Again

Her face had been hanging over the toilet all morning, throwing up everything she drank or ate.

She pissed on three pregnancy tests, and each one was positive. The tears just ran down her face like a faucet. “I can’t…I can’t…I can’t…,” Queen cried out.

Merch always said he wanted Queen to have his daughter because she had cat eyes, and she let that shit go in one ear, and out the other, never taking him seriously, plus, she didn’t have an education or career, and she took that seriously.

Queen wanted a future with him, but the money came regularly, and that’s all she wanted right now.

He’s the only man that she’s been with since they started messing around, and he rides without a rubber since day one.

Queen sneaked out and had two abortions behind Merch’s back and pretended to be sick when he touched her. When she had the miscarriage, he was right there through everything, consoling her.

She started feeling bad about killing these babies, but now she’s not homeless, she has more money, and she knows he would help.

Queen said, “Who the fuck knocking this early?”

She grabbed a rag and washed her face, trying to throw everything away at the same time panicking. She looked through the peephole again, trying to hold her tears back, hoping Merch walked off.

Queen said, “Aww, shit! Merch! Where the fuck is his key?”

Merch said, “What the fuck! Open the door.”

Queen ran back to the bathroom, trying to hide the test strips and the empty boxes in the garbage. Knowing she wouldn’t have a choice in the matter if he knew. He started banging on the door again, hard as hell.

Merch said, “I hear your ass running the fuck around. Open the door now!”

Queen said, “Quit banging. I’m coming. I was using the bathroom, damn!”

      Merch said, “Open the mooootherfucc—”

Before he could finish his sentence, the door swung open, and he pushed past her, walking in all fast, looking around as if somebody was there.

Merch said, “Who are you yelling at, Q?”

Queen said, “I was using the bathroom. Where’s your key?”

Merch said, “What’s up, Q? I heard your ass running around and shit.”

Queen said, “Nothing. What the fuck are you waving your pistol around for? Damn! Ain’t nobody in here. You’re spazzing.”

Merch said, “Don’t be speaking on what I’m doing like you’re warning some goddamn body. What the fuck!”

Queen said, “Oh my gosh! I’m not crazy enough to have another man in my house, knowing damn well you have a key.”

Merch said, “Don’t get fucked up, punk!”

He sat in the lounge chair they fuck in all the time, breaking his blunt down, noticing Queen’s eyes were watery as soon as he walked in, so he tried handing the flame to Queen, and she waved him off. “No, Merch,” Queen mumbled.

Merch said, “When did you start refusing the flame?”

Queen said, “Just flamed before you came.”

Merch said, “I don’t smell shit. Lying ass!”

Queen said, “We’re going to sit here as if you don’t have your key. Where’s your key?”

Merch said, “Queen, start cooking, I’m hungry.”

Queen said, “Where is your key, Merch?”

Merch said, “I don’t know! Probably lost it playing basketball.”

Queen said, “I don’t know how to cook either.”

Merch said, “Go cook some chicken.”

      Queen
