Dr. Chen was elevated a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering, Singapore in 2019 for the contribution to research, development, and commercialization of wireless technology and a Fellow of the IEEE for the contribution to small and broadband antennas for wireless applications in 2007. He was a recipient of the International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation Best Paper Award in 2010, the CST University Publication Awards in 2008 and 2015, the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award in 2013, the Institution of Engineers Singapore Prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards in 2006, 2013 (two awards), and 2014, the I2R Quarterly Best Paper Award in 2004, the IEEE iWAT Best Poster Award in 2005, several technology achievement awards from China during 1990–1997 as well as more than 23 academic awards by his students under his supervision. In 1997, he was awarded the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship to conduct his research at the University of Tsukuba. He has provided nine local and overseas telecommunication and IT MNCs and SMEs with technical consultancy service as a technical advisor, a guest professor, and a chief scientist. He is the Founding General Chair of the International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT in 2005), the International Symposium on InfoComm & Mechatronics Technology in Biomedical & Healthcare Application (IS 3Tin3A in 2010), the International Microwave Forum (IMWF in 2010), and the Asia‐Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation (APCAP in 2012).

Dr. Chen has also been involved in many international events as general chairs, chairs, and members for technical program committees and international advisory committees. He served as a vice president for the IEEE Council on RFID (2015–2020), deputy editor in chief for IEEE Journal of RFID (2018–2020), and a distinguished lecturer since 2015. He served as an associate editor for the IEEE TRANSACTION ON ANTENNAS AND PROPAGATION (2010–2016) and as a distinguished lecturer for the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (2009–2012). He also served as the chair for the IEEE MTT/AP Singapore Chapter (2008) and as the founding chair for the IEEE RFID Singapore Chapter (2015 and 2019–2020). Dr. Chen is currently servicing the member for IEEE MTT‐29 on aerospace Committee as well as the general chair of 2021 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC‐URSI Radio Science Meeting in Singapore.

Xianming QING (Fellow, IEEE) received his B. Eng. degree in electromagnetic field engineering from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), China, in 1985, and Ph.D. degree from Chiba University, Japan, in 2010.

From 1985 to 1996, Dr. Qing was with UESTC as a teaching assistant first, then a lecturer, and later an associate professor for teaching and research. He joined National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1997 as a research scientist for studying high temperature superconductor antennas. Since 1998, he has been with the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R, formerly known as Center for Wireless Communication, CWC, and Institute for Communication Research, ICR), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore. He is currently holding the position of senior scientist and the leader of the RF Group in Signal processing, RF, and Optical Department. His main research interests are antenna design and characterization for wireless applications. In particular, his current R&D focuses on beam‐steering antennas, new material/metamaterial‐based antennas, near‐field antennas, medical antennas, and millimeter‐wave/sub‐millimeter‐wave antennas.
