      About the Author

Image

Terry Fletcher has been walking and climbing in Snowdonia for almost 50 years since first visiting the Llanberis Pass as an awestruck teenage rock climber. Since then these romantic mountains have drawn him back again and again to climb on some of the most famous rock faces in Britain and to scramble on the high ridges. Although a proud Yorkshireman (is there any other kind?) he also claims Welsh blood on his mother’s side. He has walked, skied and climbed extensively throughout Europe and North America and has a particular love for the sandstone deserts and canyons of the American South West. He has been a full-time professional writer for more than 40 years, writing for almost every national newspaper as well as specialist magazines and appearing on television and radio to comment on the outdoors. He is a former editor of Countryman, Dalesman and Cumbria magazines and was a senior executive at the Yorkshire Post. He still lives in the Yorkshire Dales.

      Mountain Warning

Mountain walking can be a dangerous activity carrying a risk of personal injury or death. It should be undertaken only by those with a full understanding of the risks and with the training and experience to evaluate them. While every care and effort has been taken in the preparation of this guide, the user should be aware that conditions can be highly variable and can change quickly, materially affecting the seriousness of a mountain walk. Therefore, except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, neither Cicerone nor the author accept liability for damage of any nature (including damage to property, personal injury or death) arising directly or indirectly from the information in this book.

To call out the Mountain Rescue, ring 999 or the international emergency number 112: this will connect you via any available network. Once connected to the emergency operator, ask for the police.
