CHAPTER 5
Telling Time
To tell time, combine the numbers introduced in Chapter 4 (ichi, ni, san, etc.) with ji (hour) and fun (minute). Remember that a.m. is gozen, and p.m. is gogo. These words go before the time, as in gozen jū-ji (10:00 a.m.). Note that in some cases, fun changes to pun, such as ippun, sanpun, roppun, happun and jippun (one, three, six, eight and ten minutes respectively).
