Stitch to secure near clipped sections.
12. Fold the triangular shape created by the diagonal slashes to the inside along the dotted line.
13. Use a zigzag stitch to finish off the edge of the left placket only.
14. Layer right over left placket. Fold under edge of right placket by ¼ in (5mm) and pin in place.
15. From outer side (i.e. right placket), machine stitch in a □ or xx shape through to left side of placket.
16. The finished strip placket.
Lesson 2
Attaching a Stand Collar
1. Cut outer and inner collars out to the same measurements and attach adhesive interfacing to the wrong side of the outer collar only.
2. Match right sides of collar pieces and pin in place.
3. When pinning, fold the straight edge of the inner collar up by ⅜ in (1cm) at each end.
4. Stitch around collar ⅜ in (1cm) from edge.
5. Completed stitching.
6. Trim seam to ¼ in (5mm).
7. Turn seams to inside and press collar into shape.
8. Match symbols on right sides of garment and outer collar and pin in place.
9. The trick to a perfect finish is to match the edges of the strip placket (p 14) and the collar exactly.
10. Stitch all around neckline ⅜ in (1cm) from edge. 3⁄8 in (1cm) from edge
11. Fold up seam allowance of inner collar and use it to cover neckline seam.
12. Match fold so stitch line from step 10 is just visible and pin in place.
13. Machine stitch parallel to stitching line from step 10 from inside of garment.
14. Machine stitch all around edge of collar.
15. Completed stand collar.
