Once we had passed the booths we had a coffee and some cheesecake from the café. Having the coffee reminded me of June and why I call her Bubbles. Early on in our courtship, June and I were at a café where June ordered a creamy iced coffee and was taking a sip when I made her laugh at a story I was telling her. She laughed so hard that she ended up with bubbles of milk and cream coming out of her nose, and hence why I’ve called her Bubbles ever since.
Then we went searching for something to do on the flight, in case the in-flight entertainment was boring. I ended up with an eBook on New Zealand to read and Bubbles settled for the current news briefings being offered on the in-flight internet access.
Anyway we have reached our hotel and are settling down for the evening in our comfortable room overlooking the city and its waterways. It’s a nice setting. Tomorrow we meet up with Sammy to discuss the future and see what he and his town have to offer us. Hopefully this might be the start of a new way of life for us, and more importantly one that may not be at risk to terror.
Arrival
23/1/2013 @ 9pm
I had just finished making love with Bubbles when we both became aware of the rattling of the windows of the motel room. We looked at each other and said “Wow an earthquake, what do we do now?” We had never been in an earthquake and had no idea as to what we should do. It didn’t seem bad as it was settling down, so we decided not to worry about it, as the motel guide said there are always minor shakes in the general area.
We were happy, as we felt that the earthquake was good timing, so we felt it was a good sign for the rest of the holiday in New Zealand. The reason why we felt it was a good sign was due to the idea of having our misconceptions shaken and knocked over, as it seems like New Zealand was a nice place to live.
I said to my best friend, “See dear, I can still rock your world” and laughed. For that, Bubbles hit me with pillow a few times, before she fell back into my arms laughing.

The vibrating returned, a lot stronger than before. However this time it didn’t go away. So we both climbed out of bed, I was naked, and not caring, but Bubbles grabbed the bed sheet and wrapped it around her beautiful body.
The vibration was like the strong bass feelings you get from attending an ACDC concert. The vibrations were strong but there was not a single noise to indicate the source of the vibration. We even checked the sound system to ensure it was off.
I threw on a pair of shorts and then checked the hallway, but only discovered other people asking the same question, what’s with all of the vibrations? No answers there.
This had us worried as we knew it was not an earthquake, as it was going on for too long. Bubbles’ glass of water wasn’t moving only the water surface was moving, making waves…….how could this be? Then we realised that the floor wasn’t moving, only the windows were flexing.
I approached the window.
“Do we open the curtains?” I asked Bubbles.
“Is it safe? No, keep back!”
I’m not good at following the instructions of Bubbles, so I cautiously drew back the curtains. As I did, the vibrations became stronger, and we could see a wave of movement through the glass. One of the smaller panes shattered, scattering glass into the room. A small sliver of glass speared into my shin. Then as quickly as it happened the vibration stopped, to be replaced by an ominous rumbling noise.
Bubbles hadn’t even noticed that I was injured and for once I didn’t get a ‘told you so’ look. But how I wished I did, as she was entranced at the sights outside of the window. Once I stopped cursing how silly I was and pulled the glass out of my shin, I realised that nothing had been said. So I turned to see what was happening. Bubbles was not moving but trying to speak and pointing.
I looked out the window and was stunned. Here was this thing, a huge thing, hanging in the sky. The best description would be the shape of a polished and faceted gemstone sparkling in the sky. It was like one of my father-in-law’s gemstone creations. It was beautiful, sparking with light and energy and it was just stationary in the air, not doing anything we could see.
We went closer to the windows; As we approached, we could see more of the objects in the night’s sky. We realised it wasn’t some advertising show gone wrong. We could see ten new objects all different in shape, colour and size.
Bubbles looked at me and nervously said, “What in the world are these things? Are they balloons?”
I looked at her and said “I hope so. If not what the hell can you do to a diamond the size of a city block that seems to be floating in the air?”
“They can’t be real, they have to be balloons. Let’s put the news on.” Bubbles is now in her confidence mode, where she won’t let anything faze her. She believes she’s right and this comes easy for her when she’s standing up in court in her lawyer’s robes. I know this state, and know it’s not worth the effort to say no to her, unless I want an argument. I’ve long since learnt to recognise the tone, nod and say “Yes dear.”
The wall mounted plasma screen, where people appear life like in size, was powered up. We nervously laughed as the porn channel came up on the screen, some lesbian romance story. Bubbles switched to the news channel.
“Oh, my god!”
We wished it was 1st of April, as this was no fool’s joke.
Both the national and International news were reporting the same events around the world and it seemed wherever there was coverage there were these floating jewels. Just like the ones we could see but they all seemed to be different. It’s as though Bubbles’ father’s creations had come to life but were thousands of times larger and very menacing to look at.
Eyewitness reports all said there was an initial vibration and this phenomenon was repeated many times around the world. It seemed that no location was spared and broadcasts kept flowing in. The news agencies scrambled for an official response from the world’s political leaders. Every person who was interviewed said the same thing. The only thing that seemed to differ was the number of crafts. Some areas only had a few while others had dozens. There were no real defining items in the reports.
From our viewpoint we mistook the first instance as an earthquake and now the second movement had happened. So far, to our limited knowledge and the news coverage, nothing different has happened. We can’t help but vocalise our thoughts to what was going to happen next, at least we didn’t have to worry about terrorism ever again.

The anchor man for the local news station cut in to say “We break this coverage on these extraordinary events with amazing stories from our reporters on the ground to bring you an official statement from the President of the United States of America speaking on behalf of the leaders of the free world and for the United Nations.”
“My fellow Americans and People of Earth, please
