It was fortunate Fergus knew the lands like the back of his hand. This found him to feel comforted, knowing he would not get lost in the night’s darkness. A darkness that left his imagination to see him being ravaged by any brute Beast, or an unknown creature.
Fergus heard another spine-chilling noise. There was another rustle in the shrubs. Fergus froze immediately. Then in surprise Czar ran up his leg. Fergus was so overcome with fear, so when it was only Czar who was rustling about, he felt he was over reacting again. With it only being Czar, Fergus felt very relieved. Placing Czar into his right back pocket of his pants, he began to walk back to his cottage. Yet, it was Czars behavior which seemed unusual, causing Fergus to come to a halt. Czar ran from Fergus and into some bushy shrubs. Fergus followed. After tripping on some twigs and falling over twice, Fergus saw something. He could not believe his eyes. There were sparkling balls of few colors.
Fergus thought to himself how these could be the Obligor he approached. The closer he got to the Obligor’s, the more beautiful they appeared. He was becoming mesmerized at their beauty. There were three. One Purple, one Green, and one Gold. He picked up a stick to poke them with, in case there was something about them that may cause harm. He sighed in relief when nothing transpired. Taking a handkerchief from his pocket, he picked one Obligor up after the other. He placed them into his shirt pocket under his woolen jumper, and close to his heart. The handkerchief would have to be enough, Fergus thought. Because he had nothing more to place his Obligors. Then not forgetting Czar. Fergus placed him back into his pants back pocket. And in anticipation, he walked a brisk pace back to his cottage.
The Obligors would see him with all the riches he could fathom. Men would lose their minds for such beauty, Fergus thought to himself.
Upon getting closer to his cottage, Fergus put the fire out on his twig. It was close to burning out anyhow. But Fergus’s most concern was to not cause any unwanted interest from the Gully folk.
Even with all the luck Fergus thought he had that evening, he still bumped into a neighbor. It scared the life from Fergus. His neighbor came from the darkness. He did not trust his neighbor. Even his neighbors name sound untrustworthy to Fergus. His neighbor liked to be called, Sir Trust. Everyone knew he was not a Sir, but who were to argue.
“What are you doing lad?” asked Sir Trust.
At that moment. Fergus was left wanting forgiveness from any divine after replying with a white lie. “Nothing Sir, heading home after looking for Czar,” and he pulled Czar out of his back pocket.
“You seem a little uneasy. Are you sure there is nothing you are not telling me?” asked Sir Trust as he leant forward to pat Fergus on his shoulder.
“Nothing Sir,” said Fergus. Stepping away from Sir Trust while hoping there was not a glow coming from under his jumper.
“You should go back to your cottage now. You know with your Grandfather not around anymore, you need to take more care,” Sir Trust suggested.
Fergus knew Sir Trusts concerns were but in vain. The Gully was a very safe place to be. But Fergus went along with Sir Trust, and replied. “Yes Sir, I will go back to my cottage at once.” As he placed Czar back into his back pocket and moved on saying not another word.
Entering his now dismal cottage. Fergus placed his Obligor’s onto his pillow. He was feeling excited with his find. Fergus had heard talk from the Gully elders about Obligors. They believed if you can gather the rare Obligors. You should place them into a dark hidden sack. While you hold them close to your heart, this giving the Obligor their breath of life. The breath of life would allow them to form into a powerful force. Though they were not a threat, or able to influence what the Gods held for the natural man. Fergus’s mind was working overtime. But instead of resting, he decided to see if his Grandfather’s books would be able to explain in detail. What the Obligors could offer or allow.
Grandfather kept a book somewhere on Obligor’s.” Fergus believed.
Scanning the bookshelf. Fergus found books on, Geology, Architecture, and even Musicology, to name a few. Finding himself scanning many more books. When to his excitement, he found a smaller sized book. With chivalrous writing etched into its hard cover. Under the dust its title said, ‘Obligors’. Fergus felt destiny was unfolding before his eyes. Placing the book under his armpit, he climbed from the book shelf.
Sitting at the table, he took a glance at his night’s finding. Then his attention moved back to the book again. The book was like no other. He noticed when scanning through the pages. There were no pictures, but cursive writing.
“This could be a long night,” Fergus thought to himself.
Scouring the index, it read; Chapter One; what are Obligors amazing for? Chapter Two; What will different colored Obligors do?
Fergus decided from that moment how his interest would be on the first two chapters. These would teach Fergus exactly what he thought he would need to know. Fergus noticed how the darkness settled. With unwanted eerie shadows stretched across his cottage walls. To counter his uncomfortableness. He stoked a roaring fire and with this he could see what he was reading. And this then also caused the disturbing shadows to disappear. Sitting back at the table. Fergus began to read; Chapter One. It was not till the middle of the first chapter though. When Fergus began to read what Obligors were actually amazing for.
Fergus read, ‘one must keep them close to their heart; they thrive on positive thoughts. And they are in touch with forces you do not always experience. It is from the Heavens that they get their mystical energies. Allowing them to thrive beyond what any man could fathom’.
Fergus felt taken aback at what he read. He did question though. Whether he would be able to gain the knowledge overnight to be worthy of the Obligors. Even though Fergus thought he should read about the Heavens that may influence the Obligors, sometime later. He was becoming fascinated as he read further. Examining page after page. Fergus read. Chapter Two; explaining the different colored Obligors. The different colors hold a different description. Of what each Obligor’s mystical functions perform.
Fergus began with the Purple Obligor. It read; a Purple Obligor will give you the strength of ten robust men at once when you believe you need it. Fergus thought of ways this Obligor would help him. There was not a thought where he believed he would ever need such strength. He then began to read about the Green Obligor. The Green Obligor was very confronting. It read how it would protect the bearer from demise, but only once. Again, Fergus contemplated how he would ever use this Obligor. He was certain he would never allow himself to be confronted, or threatened by demise? So, with that thought, Fergus did not believe he would ever have to use his Green Obligor either. Even though, Fergus felt confident in owning this Obligor. Because it may be a one-off promise of life. Fergus then began to read about the Gold Obligor. This was a very intriguing color. The Gold Obligor read how it was one which would repel any undesirable. Or endangering intentions wished to the Obligors finder. After some time, Fergus’s head was beginning to feel dazed from all that he had been reading. Even though resting was not an option. Because he was still feeling somewhat excited with his find.
Gathering his Obligors, he placed them into a dark pouch. And then placed them into his shirt pocket, under his jumper, and close to his heart. Laying on his bed in all his excitement. Fergus forgot all about the mysterious book; To many lands and back again. Fergus had become, so tired that he was no longer able to keep his eyes open. Finding the time, he changed into his night clothes where he rested and soon fell into a deep sleep. It was his dreams throughout the night though. Those which caused him to toss and turn with disturbing images.
