Knit Notes
Both pairs of mittens are worked in stockinette stitch with a snug-fitting cuff in k1, p1 rib worked on smaller needles.
The thumb on each mitten is shaped using M1, and the tops are decreased with ssk and k2tog.

Embroider Your EMBROIDERED Mittens
Work the embroidery on the back of each mitten following the template opposite. (The template provided is as worked on the right-hand mitten and should be reversed for the left-hand mitten.) Use lazy daisy stitch for the flowers, chain stitch for the stems and a single chain stitch filled with a straight stitch for the leaves.
You Will Need For Embroidered Mittens
Yarn
• 2 x 13⁄4oz (50g) balls of medium-weight (aran) alpaca/silk mix yarn (71yd/65m per ball) in dark blue
• Oddments of light-weight (DK) yarn in lime green and bright pink
Knitting Needles
• One pair size 5 (3.75mm)
• One pair size 7 (4.5mm)
Other Materials
• Large-eyed blunt tapestry needle
Working the Embroidery
Use a large-eyed blunt tapestry needle. Work the embroidery stitches loosely – don’t pull too tightly or the knitted fabric will pucker.
To begin the embroidery, weave the end of the thread through a few knitted stitches on the back of the fabric working back through the thread to secure it.
