MEANINGS OF THE DAYS OF THE WEEKS
In Japanese, the days of the week derive from the world of nature. Getsu-yōbi (Monday) means “moon day”; Ka-yōbi (Tuesday), “fire day”; Sui-yōbi (Wednesday), “water day”; Moku-yōbi (Thursday) “wood day”; Kin-yōbi (Friday), “gold day”; Do-yōbi (Saturday) “soil day”; and Nichi-yōbi (Sunday), “sun day.” Interestingly enough, our Sunday and Monday are derived from the sun and moon as well, but that’s where the similarity stops.
