       Sample Assignment for Checklist 3

Fulfillment of the practical assignments is part of the certification requirements for EXIN DevOps Master.

Both the trainer responsible for the practical assignments and the candidate should ensure that each candidate participates in the assignments in such a way that individual performance can be assessed. This is particularly important in group assignments. Cooperation between students is allowed, as long as the students clearly show their part of the work. Students may enlist all resources they would otherwise also use in a realistic context.

       Assessment

Candidates should be assessed using the checklists provided. For reference, sample practical assignments are provided. However, trainers may use the assignments already in their training, simulations or adaptations of the practical assignments to assess the candidate. Checklists may be re-ordered by the trainer, but criteria may not be removed.

Adaptations of the assignments, alternative assignments, or simulations will be assessed independently by an auditor in the accreditation process.

Please be advised that not all observation criteria in the Checklist may be observed, due to time pressure. There is some leniency in the Checklist to accommodate for work that cannot be shown, because it does not fit within the time of a training or simulation.

       General Guidelines

In addition to the requirements per assignment there are some general guidelines:

      1. The candidate plans the activities within the assignment, unless otherwise stated.

      2. The candidate communicates and works with others where needed.

      3. The candidates provide their own solutions.

      4. The candidate contributes to the quality of the assignment, especially in group-work.

      5. Solutions provided are realistic and thus fit for the scenario or case study.

      6. Solutions provided match with business and IT objectives.

       Terminology

The DevOps terms used in these Practical Assignments are based on Effective DevOps (literature source A, see Preparation Guide).

       e-Competence Framework

The e-Competence Framework1 is an accepted and common framework for ICT professionals developed in Europe (http://www.ecompetences.eu/). EXIN supports the e-CF, because EXIN believes in professionals showing their competences and growing towards their full potential by helping them make their competences transparent. The certificate EXIN DevOps Master is based on e-CF competences.

The practical assignments and the checklists are based on the mapping of this module to the e-CF, as is reflected in the assessment criteria. They are used to show practical skills and experience which cannot be tested in a multiple choice exam. Making the practical assignments part of the certification scheme helps to test the entire competence. In order to do this, the practical assignments need to be assessed by an accredited trainer.

1 The texts in this document are based on the e-Competence Framework 3.0. CWA 16234:2014.

       Instructions

Practical assignments are assessed by an accredited trainer from the accredited training provider. It is the trainers’ responsibility to familiarize themselves with the assessment criteria before assessing candidates. The trainers are responsible for letting EXIN know the result of the Overall Evaluation of the assignments.

Each assignment has assessment criteria, based on the e-CF, related to that specific assignment. The criteria are found in the Checklists. References are provided to identify which deliverable should be used to assess certain criteria.

For example, a reference (Competence A1.1) refers to the criterion given in the Checklist under competence A1, criterion 1.

If the assignments are performed by the candidate in the workplace, the candidate does not need to deliver all deliverables at once. Deliverables for all the assignments may be handed in at different times.
