attitudes that limit the participation of older adults within the workplace.

The baby boomer generation possesses unique characteristics and is projected to work past traditional retirement age.

Underutilization of mental health services by older persons continues to exist, which is due to barriers such as the fear that individuals have of receiving mental health services, practitioners’ lack of expertise, and individuals’ inability to access mental health providers.

Professional counselors are challenged to advocate within organizations on behalf of older workers.

Knowledge of the unique challenges faced by older clients will enhance the effectiveness of the counselor–client relationship.
