She has written several articles, including “Chest X‐Ray Interpretation” and many articles on quality improvement. Throughout most of her career, she has taught nursing at the university level. Pat has traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, China, Europe, and Mexico, and has been licensed and worked part‐time throughout her career in Emergency Departments or other patient care units in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, Oklahoma, and Philadelphia. She currently lives with her husband, Ron, part of the year in Oak Lawn, IL and part of the year in Meyers, FL. Pat may be contacted at [email protected].

       JANICE TAZBIR

      Janice Tazbir earned an Associate Degree in Science in Nursing at Purdue University Calumet beginning her career as an RN at the age of 19. She furthered her education, earning a Bachelor's Degree and then a Master's Degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Critical Care. Her clinical nursing background is in critical care nursing and she has worked the entirety of her career, currently in critical care at the University of Chicago Medicine in the Level 1 Trauma ICU. Her husband, Johnny, and daughter, Jade, are RNs as well, working at the University of Chicago Medicine. Jade is a newly graduated RN and is the primary chapter author for Chapter 29 in this text. Another daughter, Joule, is a 2020 graduate of the University of Alabama (with a 4.0 GPA) in Accounting. Janice has maintained a clinical practice as staff nurse her entire nursing career. Her teaching career has been at Purdue University Northwest, Hammond, Indiana from 1997 to 2019, where she has taught advanced medical surgical nursing, pathophysiology, critical care, capstone in nursing, care of the older adult, physical assessment, and NCLEX‐RN preparation. Janice attained the status of Professor of Nursing in 2011 at Purdue University Northwest. She was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award at Purdue University Northwest in 2006. She has been a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) since 2012. Janice is a member of many professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses. She has published numerous refereed articles and book chapters over her career. She has presented locally and nationally, authored/edited four previous books including: Clinical Companion to Accompany Contemporary Medical Surgical Nursing. Tazbir, J.       Janice publishes on current topics in critical care* (see selected publications).

      She teaches NCLEX reviews for Evolve Testing & Remediation/Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI), Houston, Texas as a Live Review Instructor and has been a Peer Advisor and Consultant, is an expert on NCLEX and HESI exams, including test writing, test analysis, teaching faculty regarding NCLEX, and presenting on NCLEX* (see selected presentation). She currently is a Consultant for Anderson Continuing Education in Sacramento, California as well as a staff nurse at University of Chicago Medicine.

      Janice's administrative and committee involvement includes serving as past Undergraduate Program Coordinator at Purdue University Northwest, Hammond Campus. In her over 20 years of progressive teaching and administrative contributions to the PNW, she has made many key contributions that include (but are not limited to): appointed to Faculty Senate for multiple terms, Chairperson for multiple committees, including Faculty Affairs and Curriculum and Educational Policy and the Ad Hoc Promotion and Tenure Committee. She represented faculty in key University strategic initiatives such as mentoring, evaluations, promotion and tenure, strategic planning, experiential learning, first year experience, and unification. She was a key leader for Purdue University Northwest College of Nursing initiatives including NCLEX success and preparation, mentoring faculty and students, HESI coordination, testing center collaboration, testing, strategic planning and Purdue University Northwest College of Nursing unification efforts, where Purdue University Calumet and Purdue Westville combined universities as well as colleges of nursing.

      Her passions include her family, traveling, and yoga. She has traveled the world from Egypt to Iceland and continues to travel and grow. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and practices yoga on and off the mat. Contact her at [email protected]
